But this allows me to digress into my favorite Bergdorf's story. In Dress For Success (not to be underestimated; read it and judge ye) John Molloy tells the story of a young nobody married into corporate aristocracy. She didn't know why she had such difficulty making small talk with the other corporate wives, so she hired Molloy to study it. He interviewed the women she had encountered and one of them said she asked the girl if she'd been to Bergdorf's lately, and the girl had replied, "No, I don't know the Bergdorfs" and it went downhilll from there.
