I agree with "H". I'm six feet tall even. I own a pear of cuban heels, and I never gave any consideration of a height boost when I purchased them. One common principle of fashion is to minimize one's minuses and accentuate one's pluses. For example big women shouldn't wear bold horizontal stripes. Ever. Short men shouldn't wear 4-5-6-7 button suits. It makes them look shorter. I could go on and on and on.

Still, one cught not hide themselves (you can't anyway). When I was a teenager I started wearing skinny jeans because I was skinny and my baggy clothes were a shield for how thin I really was. The baggy clothes draped over my skeletal frame and told the same story as the fitted clothes did, excepting the honesty.

Personal style choices must be made from the standpoint of self-confidence and self-love.

As a short-legged woman, I rely on heels to balance the proportions of many of my outfits. If I have this option, why is it socially unacceptable for a man?

Criticizing a man for using heels to resolve the height difference with his taller wife is criticizing him for equating height with power, and failing to accept himself. Fair enough. But the idea that men should never wear higher heels for *any* reason is still a submission to the same principle.

Although I agree insecurity is never hot, why is it then acceptable for women to wear 4 to 5 inch heels in the name of fashion? Why can women not feel comfortable in their height and just wear flats? Which is not to say that I think man heels are attractive. I just think that we might be a little gendered in our notion of thinking regarding heels.

Perhaps this explains the scads of men's heels I saw when doing research for my next book? My co-author and I were surprised at how many of the men's dress shoes we found had heels much higher than expected. I asked The Beard what he thought of them, and his answer was that they were ridiculous looking and he wouldn't dream of wearing them.

I think it is a terrible shame that instead of being proud he caught a big one, a smaller man tries to get his big her to look smaller. Of course we all have a part in making shorter, balder, plumper, older men feel less man than they should. Lucky men like Manolo who remain invisible except to those who love them.

I admit to having been partial to very tall men, but the few smaller men I knew usually proved to be man enough. It's in the head, you know, so let's all celebrate smart ones.

No man today can look as sexy as Louis XIV in heels. And he also wore tights.

Then again, my question ist: what so bad about the woman being taller than the man? Does he fear he can not protect the Karate Champion he married?

If a guy is 5'5" and uses high heels to bring himself up to a mighty 5'7", does he think people are going to suddenly believe that he's tall? Or even average?

My 5'4" dad was very successful for decades in an insanely competitive field, and my 5'5" brother (with elbow-length hair!) never has any trouble getting dates. I dated a lovely guy for quite a while who was just a hair shorter than my own 5'3". And none of them would dream of wearing high heels, or of making excuses for their height.

Skip the heels and accept yourselves, short dudes. That's sexier than a couple more inches. So to speak.

Oh. That little tyrant. I was thinking of the other little French tyrant. I'm surprised I haven't seen anything comparing Sarkozy to Napoleon.
