Manolo Ayyyyyy! The Evil One is now armed!
Karl’s got a gun. Several dozen, in fact, and he showed them off at Thursday night’s carnival of a cruise collection, shown quite literally in the pool of South Beach’s famed Raleigh Hotel.
As the Manolo’ s internet friends at Fashionologie (from whom the Manolo found this story) have pointed out, these are not merely for the runway, but will actually be manufactured and sold by Chanel.
Normally, the Manolo would be tempted to read some greater societal message into the appearance of such overtly gangsta bling shoes on the runway, but it is clear from everything the Manolo has read that they are here only because his Malignant Karlness thought they were cool.
In other words, sometimes the fake gun is just the fake gun.

As fun as these might be (yes, I want a pair to wear on my more dangerous days) I wonder if there will be any repercussions if a kid starts using one as a toy after mum snaps the heel from the sole?

I doubt it; I’ve seen more convincing fake guns on novelty keychains. And for what those things are bound to cost, those had better not be breaking off, anyway.
I have to admit to having a secret hankering for these, if only because I know the perfect event to wear them to.

Oh, but no! It isn’t simply that sometimes the fake gun is just the fake gun. One absolutely must assess whether the idea is clever, or whether the result is at least beautiful. This fails on both counts.

If they were real guns, this would be a very handy shoe to wear as you walked down a deserted street in the middle of the city at midnight.

This is silly and inappropriate. It is also derivative: Kaiser Karl stole the idea from Philippe Starck who used wannabe-guns in lamps in his imaginatively named ‘Guns’ collection as early as 2005. So boring, boring, boring.

Only if you are a law-abiding citizen. Crooks get shoes/guns without going through the usual channels.
If we make shoes criminal, only criminals will have shoes.

This is obviously influenced by the GET SMART film coming out…shoe phone, now the gun phone. Karl is not really innovating here…

The heels looks like they’ll snap off at any moment–they aren’t far enough back on the foot.
In addition, some genius is going to think “Hey, that’s a good idea” and either paste real guns to shoes as either fake (yet real) imitations, or because people will believe those guns are really fake and end up getting shot in some sort of violent crime either on purpose or on accident…Or accidentally shoot off their own foot.
Besides, they’re kinda ugly.
