Manolo the Columnist

Manolo says, here is the Manolo’s latest column for the Express of the Washington Post.

Dear Manolo,

I’m a commuter who must run from the train to my office. So, I need a shoe with a high vamp that will stay on my foot, a cushiony sole, and a high enough heel so that my pant hems won’t drag on the ground. Is there any other non-frumpy option than wearing sneakers and carrying heels in a tote bag.

Paulina

Manolo says, yes, it is called “taking the earlier train.”

Actually, the Manolo has much sympathy for the poor peoples who must make the lengthy commutes.

On the one of the hands you wish to live the American dream, with the 2.1 kids and the good schools and the spacious lawn and the industrial-strength Viking range in the newly remodeled stainless steel and granite kitchen.

On the other of the hands, this requires money, lots of money, which as we all know, does not grow on the 12-foot tulip poplars your landscaper has just planted in your back yard.

And so, early each morning it is up, gird the loins, paint the face, and out the door for the daily combat of earning the living.
