As a tie is the accepted way for a gentleman to add a dash of color to the solid-color drabness of his suit, and as the Pope does not, as a rule, wear ties, I admire His Holiness for finding a very clever way to add some flair to his vestments. Further, I admire his restraint in his choice of socks :~) I agree with gemdiva; the red shoes are delightful.
