What the Manolo Is…
Manolo says, it is Tuesday, time to see what the Manolo is…
Until this past weekend, when the Manolo saw the new Tropic Thunder movie, The Manolo had nearly given up on Ben Stiller. His act, once so sharp and funny, had grown stale and repetitive, and almost unbearably lazy with throw away movies such as Dodgeball.
But, with this new movie he has redeemed himself, for it is one of the funniest and sharpest movies the Manolo has seen in many months, indeed, it is the work of near genius.
Of the course, Tropic Thuner is not the movie for the faint of heart, but those who can tolerate cruel and intensely sardonic humor will be well rewarded. Both Ben Stiller and Jack Black are exceedingly good, and Robert Downey, Jr. gives what is undoubtedly one of the most confoundingly brilliant and funny performances the Manolo has ever seen. And even with that, the entire movie is stolen by (of all peoples) Tom Cruise(!), who gives what is the most exceptional and unhinged performance of his career, one that has honestly caused the Manolo to reassess his opinion of him.
So, if you are the person who loves the comedic acting, you must go see this movie forthwith.

And if the Manolo wants to see a movie that is heartfelt and unique, he should check out Henry Poole is Here. It’s a smaller movie, but if the Manolo likes it, it would be most awesome if he were to recommend it to his readers.

although I always bow to the Manolos superior knowledge on all things – I have to confess that I find the Manolos new found love to the Tom Crusie disturbing, and have to question whether the Manolo is under some Xenu hypnotising spell…

Anon, worry not over the Manolo’s re-evaluation of Tom Cruise. He was both brilliant and unexpected. Tropic Thunder is not to be missed, if you can deal with the non-stop profanity, innumerable explosions, and gallons of fake movie blood and guts.
I loved it.

Pssst! Dearest Manolo, your keyboard has betrayed you in the third paragraph – or the “d” in Tropic Thun[d]er is off in search of a sequel.
Always at your service, maestro.

Sir, your new evaluation of Tom Cruise suggests you may simply be giving the devil his due. He is an exceptional actor–while I don’t see every movie Mr. Cruise has ever made, I honestly can’t think of one in which he’s turned in a bad performance.
However, once he steps off the set…I, too, wonder what he’s being fed.

Mr. Cruise is a whack-job.
That being said, he has done some very good movies.

Now I must see this movie! Cruise is a good actor and always has been, and he’s been — with some startling exceptions — better than most at picking his projects. When he was younger he didn’t get credit for being good because he was so damn gorgeous. Now, well, he’s just got a pile of baggage that’s kind of hard to see over the top of!

I would normally not give this movie much weight (the admiration for robert downey’s acting skills could not overcome the distaste for Stiller’s), I will go see it based on the Manolo’s recommendation (and impeccable taste).

I must third the opinion of the Manolo – I don’t think I’ve laughed as much at a movie since Borat… although one scene did make me question whether I’d ever be able to look at spaghetti and hot dogs the same way again… : )

Miss J must see this now. She, like The Manolo, had all but given up on Mr. Stiller. But in Hollywood, everyone is redeemable.

Miss J caught this over the weekend. Hilarious. The Manolo was right on in his review.
