Deep Glamour Party
Manolo says, the Manolo’s good friend Virginia Postrel, of the marvelous blog Deep Glamour is having the party to celebrate their first anniversary! It is all part of the Los Angeles Fashion Walk celebration.
A hat sale and exhibition titled “You’re the Top,” organized by writer and deepglamour.net blogger Virginia Postrel, will take over the lobby at the Farmer’s & Merchants Bank building at the corner of Fourth and Main streets from 6-10 p.m. The “celebration of glamorous hats and the people who wear them,” said Postrel, will feature creations by milliners such as Stella Dottir (who owns a Historic Core shop), Louise Green and Arturo Rios, plus items from makeup artist and hat connoisseur Wendy Ann Rosen’s collection. Some of the hats will be for sale, others for display only. The event will also feature slide shows, a photo booth and prizes.
Postrel decided to do the show because “hats have many of the qualities that define a glamorous accessory.” She added, “There are door prizes for people who wear hats, and you get more tickets if you wear real hats. If you wear a baseball hat, you only get one ticket.”
Hats? Manolo loves the hats!
Please, if you are in the Los Angeles area be sure to drop by downtown and say hello to the Virginia and he Deep Glamour people.

I too love hats, unfortunately wearing them has become a lost art. I think this is because hairstyle is now our “head ornament” and we no longer wear hairstyles that accomodate hats. Daily life is so casual now there are few chances to wear them, aside from church, meeting the Pope or the Kentucky Derby.

Hola to the Phyllis! If it is of any comfort to you, La BellaDonna, she wears a hat every time she sets foot outside (and it is the true hat, not a “baseball cap”). La BellaDonna suspects that the casual lifestyle bears more blame than do the current hairstyles, which, after all, are not the carefully teased and crafted confections of the 1960s; no, generally speaking, they are versions of the Flat Hair. Sometimes the Flat Hair, it is long; sometimes it is short; sometimes it looks like the Posh Spice; but, generally speaking, it is the Flat Hair, which is not at all incompatible with the wearing of hats. La BellaDonna, she has the flat hair, and knows whereof she speaks. The curly hair, which La BellaDonna wishes she had (and did, briefly, with varying degrees of unsuccess), is more demanding of the hat wearer, but it too can be truly charming crowned with a hat.
La BellaDonna wishes, oh, how she wishes, that she was going to attend the exhibition and sale!

Hola to the Virginia Postrel, and muchas besos for the photographs!
Alas, La BellaDonna, she can no more afford the thousand-dollar hats than she can afford the thousand-dollar boots. This is a cause for much sadness for La BellaDonna. (The thousand-dollar purse she cannot afford either, but it has long since ceased to be a luxury item. And La BellaDonna, she can pick only two out of the three vices/luxuries for which to long and not afford.)
