Manolo the Columnist: Reese Boot from Elizabeth and James
Manolo says, here is the Manolo’s latest column for the Express of the Washington Post.
0Dear Manolo,
I’ve just accepted a job on the other side of the country, and I’ve decided that in honor of this big move I’m going to redo my image at ripe age of 28. I want to be one of the cool kids. What would you recommend?
Kristy
Manolo says, asking the Manolo to give advice on how to be cool, is like asking Donald Trump for advice on how to be less vulgar. You may get the reasonably coherent answer, but you can be certain that its source is entirely theoretical.
Having said this, the Manolo notes that coolness is more about attitude than clothing, and indeed, the coolest persons are often those whose dress is the most minimalistic. Consider, as we must always, the example of Marlon Brando, who defined the ultimate coolness dressed in nothing but the white t-shirt, Levis 501s, and Converse All Stars. As you may see, the leather motorcycle jacket, usually taken as the marker of the coolest of cats, is strictly optional.
And here the Manolo must note that if you have to ask how to be cool, you’ve already lost. Coolness is the zen koan: he who wishes to be cool is not.
Look here is the Reese from Elizabeth and James, the suede ankle bootie that would go well with your new all black wardrobe!

La BellaDonna, she has the greatest of sympathy for the Kristy, and wishes her well. However, in the experience of La BellaDonna, the coolness, it resides in the NOT caring. Specifically, the coolness resides in the NOT caring what other people think. This results in the discovery, for instance, that the Weird Al Yankovic, he is just as cool as the Marlon Brando … if a little more oddly dressed.
La BellaDonna, she suggests to the Kristy that the Kristy spend some serious time thinking about how she wishes to present herself, for herself; it is, at least, the footpath to cool, if not the road to it. And these would be the excellent footwear on the footpath!*
*Not for La BellaDonna, though; La BellaDonna, she wears the flat boots on the footpaths and roads alike.

LOOOOOOK AT THE HEEL!!! That texture, the way it changes across the heel and the over the instep. Ohhhhhh. I love. I want. I can’t have. Boo.

I’m with Maggie. Those are just dripping with sex appeal. Kristy should get hit on by too-cool-for-everything hipsters and genuinely badass bikers alike in those beauties.

Adoring that texture! I’m a patent gal, but sometimes it just looks like it’s trying too hard. These are the epitome of effortless chic.

A very true response about cool. I’d like the shoes in anything other than suede.

They look very a-couple-of-seasons-ago Olsen to me….I have seen many low quality wannabe knockoffs of this very style around for two or three years everywhere-not cool, not different enough at all to pass for any kind of cool….
