I LOOOOOOVE my Vibram Sprints (the ones with a strap across the top)! They are AWESOME shoes! Don’t worry, I’m not wearing them to the mall or anything and I’m still a cute shoes addict (and I am fully aware they’re not cute). However, for walking, running, tree climbing, yoga, etc. they are the best shoe you’ll find. They not only feel awesome (walking over gravel is like a foot rub!), but they also help undo a lot of the foot, leg, and posture problems caused by normal shoes. And considering the other shoes I love wearing, that’s a MUST.
Here’s a great article with more info, especially in the comments: http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog/2009/05/07/vibram-five-fingers-shoes/
What? No mention of Magritte’s La Modéle rouge?
http://www.abcgallery.com/M/magritte/magritte19.html
Or, perhaps more shockingly, no reference to the handful of other styles that have featured faux toes over the years. Such as this pair from costumer Odette Nicoletti:

Or the Lawler Duffy pair silk screened on top with two left feet. (Noted in Linda O’Keeffe’s wonderful collection of footwear photos, Shoes.)
Or most famously the actual pair of shoes in the style of Magritte created by Pierre Cardin. Now there’s something to scour the thrift stores for! (Worth searching out the photo just to behold them.
“Pierre Cardin, who briefly worked for Schiaparelli during the 1940s, developed Magritte’s concept into men’s shoes with molded toes in 1986. Dilys E. Blum, from Shocking! The Art and Fashion of Elsa Schiaparelli (2003).”
Said Cave Boulevardier is obviously bi-curious. For Darwinian advantage.
