La bella donna, I agree the boots of La Canadienne are indeed gorgeous.. i am still trying to convince myself to fork over the cash, only because this will be my second and last winter in the cold western world after which I will return to the hot sultry lands of south east asia where said boots will curl up and metaphorically die =(

LaHolandaisa, unfortunately the huge bunions can’t necessarily be prevented by expensive well made shoes, heels 4 inches high will harm you regardless of the label..which is not to say that they don’t help at all…I guess it’s important to achieve a good balance..(very tough for tiny women like me) :)

Klee you are so right! I work in a shoe store and I see so many beautiful women but with huge bunions! These are caused by neglecting your feet. They tell me how they used to year 4 inch heels daily and now they have to get the bones in their feet shaved down (and this goes without mentioning all the back problems they have later)! Please treat your feet with respect….I tell all my friends in their early 20s to start buying good shoes now to prevent this but they do not understand. I love Stuart Weitzman his shoes are amazing and comfortable, I buy these even on my student budget they are worth every penny! You stand on your feet all day so you need to treat them with care!

Hola to the Sue! La BellaDonna, she recommends that the Sue hie herself over to the Zappo’s, or other large-vendor-of-choice, and see what boots by La Canadienne meet her standards! La Canadienne boots, they are the waterproof, they are the warm (some are lined with the sheepskin, some are lined with the “other”, but all are weatherproof for the Canada winters), and many of them are very graceful indeed. in the same vein can someone recommend shearling lined boots that are 1) water/snowproof and 2) feminine and glamorous? (No uggs please)

Pam: You have not been reading the Manolo for long, have you? He is much too well mannered to take you to task, so I will fill you in: Good shoes cost money. They should be well constructed by craftsmen, not chinese children in slave-like conditions. Good shoes will last. I have shoes that are ten years old, they still look great (just need to be re-heeled every once in a while) and are still comfy. Good, well-designed shoes will not kill your feet/knees/back. Good shoes demonstrate good taste. Wait for them to go on sale, if you need to, but invest in them. They will pay you dividends.

May I also recommend the new Cole Haan Air Bria Ballerina wedge? They just came out, I bought one pair in the store and ordering another through zappos. I am such a enthusiatic endorser of Cole Haan that they ought to give me a free pair of shoes, but the “Air” line is one of the very few pretty, stylish and comfortable-even-walking-three-miles shoes I have ever found. The new wedges are two-toned, chic and not-childish looking.
