Vernal Shoes For the Poor Girl

Manolo says, one of the Manolo’s internet friends has asked the Manolo the question.

Dear Manolo,

I love to look at the expensive sandals on your site, but I’m just a working girl and shoes like that are way, way, WAY out of my price range. It would take me months to save up enough to buy those shoes, as much as I would be thrilled to wear them.

So, what must I do? Can you find me some nice spring sandals for under $150?

Your internet friend forever,

Brianne

Yes, it is true, the Manolo loves to show you super fantastic shoes of great costliness, even though he knows that most of his friends will never be able to afford such luxuries; shoes that may perhaps be on one’s “bucket list”.

In the meantime, while you are accumulating great wealth by writing your elven bodice ripper (perhaps, to be entitled, The Passion of Ravenscroft, followed by the sequel, The Return of the Passion of Ravenscroft) you must still wear shoes, for you are not the hobbit who can go about in bare feets.

Of course, the Manolo, who knows what it is like to be poor, so poor that you must live in the earthen burrow beneath the Long Island Expressway like the urban hobbit, will be happy to recommend the few shoes of reasonable cost and superior attractiveness.

Franco Sarto Cool Espadrille Wedges

And when our poor girl arrives in Amagansett, she will need some wedge espadrilles, such as these, the Cool from Franco Sarto (available in six colors) to wear with her flowing sun dress.

Michael Kors Winnie Thong Sandals in Silver Metallic

And, when it comes time to head to the beach (it is 90 degrees in New York today!), our working girl will wish to glam it up the bit under her sarong, perhaps with these silver metallic thong sandals, the Winnie from Kors by Micheal Kors.

Interview with the Manolo

Manolo says, there is the interview with the Manolo (and the few other shoe bloggers) over at the new men’s shoe blog, The Shoe Buff.

Here is the sample..

TSB: To what degree does your love of women’s footwear seep into men’s footwear?

Manolo: Manolo loves all the shoes! The Manolo’s love of women’s shoes is the powerful aesthetic impulse, driven as it is by the desire to recognize and celebrate beauty in the particular. While the Manolo’s love of men’s shoes is more concrete and acquisitive. Nothing is as satisfying as wearing beautifully made, bespoke shoes, whose appeal is subtle and more personal for the Manolo than his love of women’s shoes, which is more intellectual and abstract.

The Fat Mafia?

Manolo says, Miss Plumcake has, in her usual retiring way, ignited the firestorm.

Kim Jong Il, Fashion Trendsetter!

From the Agence France-Presse comes news of the latest fashion trend.

The trademark suit sported by North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il is now in fashion worldwide thanks to his greatness, Pyongyang’s official website said Wednesday.Like Evel Knievel, Kim Jong Il favors the jump suit. A touch of color would be good, no?

Uriminzokkiri, quoting an article in communist party newspaper Rodong Sinmun, said the modest-looking suits have gripped people’s imagination and become a global vogue.

“The reason is that the august image of the Great General, who is always wearing the modest suit while working, leaves a deep impression on people’s mind in the world,” it said.

“To sum it up, that is because his image as a great man is so outstanding.”

The article quoted an unidentified French fashion expert as saying world fashion follows Kim Jong-Il’s style.

“Kim Jong-Il mode which is now spreading expeditiously worldwide is something unprecedented in the world’s history,” the stylist was quoted as saying.

The suits consist of an overall-style zipped-up tunic and matching trousers, usually in khaki or blueish-grey.

To which the Manolo replies, do not be ridiculous, Kim Jong Il, the fashion leader. It is, as they say, to laugh.

“But, Manolo,” you are perhaps saying, “do you not remember that Preen RTW show from last year?”

Preen Jumpsuit, RTW 2010, Designed by Dicatators!

Ayyyyyyy!

P.S. This is not the first time the Manolo has considered the fashion crimes of Kim Jong Il.
