Your dear friend might be interested in reading the works of Kant, an important philosopher of the Enlightenment with many well developed theories about god and life. Or Lessing, who sort of invented multiculturalism.
If one dares to look a tiny bit further from the well developed German stereotype, one can actually find many surprises about Germany. Before we created hell on earth, we were poets and philosophers, and I still like to think we are.
When the damn football world championship is not on, at least.
