The Exchange Student on Glee
Manolo says, Oh noes! The important role of exchange student on Glee, which by right of adorability and quirkiness should have gone to Lin Yu Chun, has in the stead been given to the tiny Filipino singer Charise Pempengco.
Sadly, the Manolo must object to this casting, not merely because this person is not Lin Yu Chun, but also on the grounds that she is only 18-years-old and already she is doing this…
Filipino teenage singer Charice Pempengco says she prepared for her debut on the hit TV show “Glee” by getting Botox and an anti-aging procedure “to look fresh on camera.”
The 18-year-old Charice, whose singing career rocketed after appearing on Ellen DeGeneres’ and Oprah Winfrey’s talk shows, underwent a 30-minute Thermage skin-tightening procedure and Botox to make her “naturally round face” more narrow, celebrity cosmetic surgeon Vicki Belo told ABS-CBN television.
Botox at 18? It is both sad and ridiculous.
You may be certain that Lin Yu Chun would not be getting the Botox to narrow his face were he in the same situation, which, sadly, he is not.
What might have been…

This child is evil and deluded. Besides, she is obscure. Bring on the Lin Yu Chun!

Well, she’s cute, evil, and deluded, anyway. But Lin Yu would have been much better!

While this would be horrible, IF TRUE, it isn’t true.
She got it to relieve her TMJ.

even if it were true, i fail to see why that makes her evil.
or why obscurity should prevent a talented young person from gaining exposure in her chosen field.

Her chosen field is, according to her, “fitting in better” with the cast. Thermage is not a treatment one gets for TMJ; it’s a nonsurgical facelift procedure.

I feel so sorry for this girl, it sounds like her doctor announced her procedures to the world. Maybe the health information privacy act doesn’t exist in the Philippines? Glancing through the articles about this, they all say that ‘Charice Pempengco says she prepared for her debut on the hit TV show “Glee†by getting Botox and an anti-aging procedure “to look fresh on camera.‒ But there aren’t any actual interviews or quotes from her saying this. More like she told her doctor that’s what she wanted and her doctor turned around and told everyone else. Instead of piling on a young girl full of insecurities who is trying to make it in the showbiz world, why not consider the media practices that drive beautiful natural woman to change their appearance? She’s under a ton of pressure to be an Asian pop star who makes it in the US. She would be the first to do so.

Nevermind, I redact my earlier comment. The procedure was filmed and broadcast on national television. SAD SAD SAD.

kk, even though the procedure did happen, i think your earlier comment stands —
particularly this one: “Instead of piling on a young girl full of insecurities who is trying to make it in the showbiz world, why not consider the media practices that drive beautiful natural woman to change their appearance? She’s under a ton of pressure to be an Asian pop star who makes it in the US.”
who knows what ideas might have been put in her head about her not being good enough and needing to measure up? i too would hesitate to judge too harshly.
