Manolo says, it is Tuesday, time to see what the Manolo is…
Eagerly awaiting the publication of…
The Manolo has decided that his literary education has the Penelope Fitzgerald shaped hole, which he will now attempt to fill by reading several of her novels in the quick succession.

Apparently my memory has a Penelope Fitzgerald-shaped hole. As I read the description of Offshore, it sounded vaguely familiar. I did read it, years ago. I remember a pervasive feeling of soft melancholy, but nothing much about the characters or plot. I would be less unhappy about the diminished memory that advancing age brings if I could retain more of the high-quality literature and forget, instead, things like the terrible performance evaluation that I received from my first boss, in 1982. Looking on the bright side, at least I can have the pleasure of discovery again.

Enjoy, Manolo! Good reading. I have read several Penelope Fitzgerald novels. “Offshore”, “The Bookshop”, “Human Voices”, “At Freddie’s”, “Gate of Angels”, “The Golden Child”, “The Beginning of Spring”. I have also read her book “The Knox Brothers” about her remarkable father (Edmund Knox) & three uncles (Dillwyn, Wilfrid & Ronald Knox).
