Manolo the Columnist: Tiriolo by Bruno Magli

Manolo says, here is the Manolo’s latest column for the Express of the Washington Post.

Dear Manolo,

My husband has planned a trip for us to Paris in May. It will be my first time in the city and I, of course, would like to look as smashing as possible (so as not to be outdone by those fashionable French women). The problem is, I am a very short girl and I always wear heels when I’m out. I understand that, given the amount of walking that one is likely to do during their first trip to Paris, heels may not be a practical option. Then again, hemming all of my trousers before the trip is also not practical. What is a short (but stylish!) girl to do?

Stacey

Manolo says, Paris in the Spring Time! The weather will be temperate, the flowers will be in bloom, and if this is your first visit, you will finally encounter, in his native element, human society’s most natural-born aristocrat: the Parisian waiter.

Forget about all of those kings and queens, dukes and counts, the truly superior being is the person who will be bringing you the bouillabaisse.

You may have heard that the waiters in Paris are rude. Nonsense! They are simply displaying the dignified sense of reserve appropriate to their exalted station. They cannot help it that your lack of eating utensils, or the undercooked state of your food, has caused you to become all shouty, it is not their problem.

Likewise, you may think you your meal is brought to you because you are paying for it, as part of the commercial transaction. Ha! Your food and drinks arrive simply because your waiter has the keen sense of noblesse oblige. Serving you is the charity work Parisian waiters perform to help the less fortunate.

Look! Here is the Tiriolo from Bruno Magli. Cork soles for comfort and height, patent leather for sassy styling.

Manolo the Columnist

Manolo says, here is the Manolo’s latest column for the Express of the Washington Post.

Dear Manolo,

I just purchased a Max Azria jersey knit wrap dress to wear during an upcoming trip to Ireland. It has ¾ length sleeves and is black with a green and white print. My question is, can I wear this dress with knee high boots during the early spring?

Leslie

Manolo says, Max Azria and Ireland! Truly, this is the combination the Manolo has never considered.

But then, the Manolo’s mental image of Ireland is firmly planted in the distant and picturesque past of red-headed peoples in tweed who carry the shillelaghs in one hand and the pints of Guinness in the other.

Of the course, the new Ireland is the dynamic and modern place where digitally-savvy immigrants from foreign lands mingle with the natives in the fancy gastro-pubs serving nouvelle Irish cuisine, like corned-kobe and bok choy.

Even Irish fashion has begun to make its mark, with designers like Pauric Sweeny, Margaret O’Leary, and the shoe designer Eileen Shields, whose main store is in the Old City part of Dublin, and is well worth the visit.

Natrually, you will need the boots to outfit you before your Irish shopping expedition, and so the Manolo recommends the Connie from Bruno Magli. It is simple, elegant, beautiful and eminently wearable.

Manolo the Columnist

Manolo says, here is the Manolo’s latest column for the Express of the Washington Post.

Dear Manolo,

My favorite pair of beautiful, practical, comfortable, Italian leather, black, flat ankle boots have finally died. I’ve been trying to keep them alive, taking good care of the leather, re-heeling them when needed, but they have passed beyond the point of saving, and now I need new shoes. Please help me.

Leah

Manolo says, in the past the Manolo has discussed in this column the six stages of shoe-loss grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance, and shopping.

Letters like this, however, remind us in the personal way of the trauma suffered by those who have lost their loved ones after the long period of decline.

It is not easy letting go, and the Manolo would never want you to forget those who were with us through the thick and the thin ankles, but who have now passed on.

Yet life continues, and we must through it muddle as best as we can. Remember, as the Byrds sang, “to every shoe there is the season, turn, turn, turn.” And Leah’s departed flat black boots, who know this fact of life, would want her to be happy, would want her to find the new boots that would take good care of her.

Perhaps these handsome boots, the Devonshire from Bruno Magli, can begin to help heal Leah’s heart.

Shoes for the Green Velvet

Manolo says, one of the Manolo’s internet friends has asked the Manolo the question.

Manolo,

I’m going to my first Washington fancy dress party in a few weeks, and I needed some shoes to match a tea length vintage green velvet dress w/ rhinestone straps. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Sydney

Since the Manolo does not know the exact shade of this lovely sounding dress, the Manolo will turn to the Bishop Don “Magic” Juan, who always recommends that green clothes be matched with the gold shoes, or as he would put it, “Green for the money, Gold for the honey!”

Yes, perhaps you would not want your shoes to be designed by the good Bishop, but even he would agree that these shoes from the Bruno Magli are “chuuurch”!

Manolo shouts, Happy Voting Day!!!

Here are some appropriate shoes for the super fantastic girl who will today do her civic duty by voting.

Manolo the Columnist

Manolo says, the latest column of the Manolo it is now available at the website of the Express of the Washington Post.

Today’s topic it is the men with the big feets.

Dear Manolo,

My stepfather is despairing because of his big feet. He says he loves shoes, but he cannot find stylish, comfortable shoes that are size 14 and “medium wide.” Please help!

Tracie

Manolo says, the Manolo he receives each month many dozens of the emails from the desperate womens who have giant feets. However, this it is the first time the Manolo can recall the letter asking the Manolo to help the man with the large feets.

It is the nearly universal truism that the mens take great pride in the size of the feets, as with other body parts that shall remain unnamed, the bigger the better, and indeed the Manolo himself, he has always been happy to say that he wears the manly size eleven.

The correct solution to any problem with the foot size it is the save the moneys and have the shoes custom made, however, this it is not always possible. Thus the Manolo would tell the step-father of the Tracie to do what the professional athletes do and consider the Bruno Magli. There was the reason why the O.J. Simpson shod his own size twelve feets with the shoes of the Bruno Magli.

Here is the Magonza from the Bruno Magli, the classic and handsome moccasin toe loafer, available up to the size 15 in the EEE widths.

Manolo says, the Manolo’s latest column it is now available at the website of the Express of the Washington Post

Already the controversy about this column is has begun!

Dear Manolo,

I’m a physician, one who like most doctors spends many hours standing, can you suggest something comfortable and stylish?

Many thanks,

Lucia

Manolo asks, when did the doctors first begin to dress like the mental patients?

Is it now mandatory that every physician now appear everywhere—the surgery, the hospital, the bank, the country club—wearing the green pajamas and the ridiculous plastic “comfort” clogs?

Yes, the Manolo knows that they are called the “scrubs”, but are they not the same institutional pajamas worn by the troubled residents of many psychiatric hospitals?

Worse, it is not just the surgeons who are wearing the scrubs. All of the doctors are now doing it. Even the Manolo’s own celebrity podiatrist—the man whose most tricky operation involves the rasp and the recalcitrant bunion—even he has begun to affect this disconcerting style.

Perhaps this happened at that moment when the nurses began to dress like the circus clowns, in the ridiculous and gaudy polyester prints that have mostly replaced the starched white uniforms of the past.

Happily, there are the few, like the Manolo’s friend Lucia, who know that if one is a professional, one must dress the part. This it is why the Manolo would suggest the Nanico from the Bruno Magli, the handsome and professional shoe that will inspire the confidence in your abilities as the professional.

Low Heels for the Working Girl

Manolo says, many of the Manolo’s internet friends have been asking the Manolo, “Manolo, we are the working girls who need to stride forcefully through the halls of the workingplace so that our co-workers may be impressed by the aura of power and competence we exude. But, we need the low-heeled shoes of business because we are the peoples who find it difficult to stride forcefully in the high heels. Please help us!”

Although it is the opinion of the Manolo that the forceful business striding would best be done in the highest of heels, so that you may tower Godzilla-like over your pitiable coworkers, who will quail before your awsome majesty, he is nonetheless sympathetic to the plights of the super fantastic girls who believe that they cannot wear the high heels.

And so, the Manolo he has selected three pairs of the super fantastic low-heeled shoes that would be suitable for the wearing in the place of the employment or on the street.
