Manolo says, hers is the Manolo’s latest column for the Express of the Washington Post.
Dear Manolo,
Although the weather has been unseasonably warm of late, I’m worried that it could still take a turn for the cold. It is still March, after all. So, I’m not quite ready to let it all hang out and wear sandals, just yet. What would you recommend as a sort of intermediate shoe?
Kelsey
Manolo says, it is true, we are in the period between the winter slush and the vernal warmth, that strange demi-season — one minute too cold, the next too hot, rain followed by sunshine followed by hail– the period when we are virtually guaranteed to leave the house wearing exactly the wrong thing.
Despite this inconvenience, late March should be the period of anticipatory joy; the blooms are loaded into the flowers, and the green fuse is lit. Soon, we will wake up one morning, step outside and be happily stunned by the explosion of new life, by the flowers flowering, the birds birding, and the bees being their wonderfully bee-ish selves.
If there is within us any feeling, we will skip and caper, and sing happy little songs of welcome to the new season. We will be called to remember that we, too, are animals, who have the sacred duty to celebrate the arrival of spring. Indeed how can we be dour when nature has put on her finery and is demanding to be acknowledged, like the pretty woman in the flowered dress?
Here is the aptly named Flora from Delman, the perfect lacey ballet flat for the arrival of the new season. Fear not the occasional blast of cold, spring is here!

Manolo says, here is the Manolo’s latest column for the Express of the Washington Post.
Dear Manolo,
Because I’m the new girl in the office, I’m not going to get take my vacation until the very end of August. In the meantime, I’ve got to stick it out at work, here in the city, in this sweltering heat. At least my boss is cool with open-toed shoes and sandals, which means I can find some relief for my poor, swollen, sweaty feet. Please suggest something that will make me feel better about my predicament.
Kate
Manolo says, it is summer time! Time for sun in your fun!
Or, in the case of the Manolo’s friend, time to sit in the office and dream of being somewhere other than at the desk.
But, such is the nature of life. While some peoples are off riding the gold-plated jet-skis with Fabio on Lake Como, others must tend to the machineries of commerce, adding their imperceptible widow’s mite to the Product of Gross Domestication.
Later, when it is finally your turn to take the vacation, you will spend most of it helping your divorced mother clean out her garage, so that there will be room for her new boyfriend to park his bass boat.
Then, after your familial duties are completed, you will have three days all to yourself, which you will spend at the unseasonably rainy Maryland shore, eating room service crab cakes and watching daytime television.
Look espadrilles! From Delman!

Manolo says, here is the Manolo’s latest column for the Express of the Washington Post.
Dear Manolo,
I’m a 20-something Brooklyn girl in search of the perfect leather boot. I need something that will be perfect from fall to spring, something that I can wear uptown to work, downtown to play, something that can stand up to miles and miles of walking around Manhattan without killing my feet. I’m back on my feet after a layoff and happier than ever, so I’d like to celebrate with an appropriately practical, classic, and useful purchase, and I need your help!
Shanna
Manolo says, this heartfelt plea poses the serious philosophical question: is there such the thing as the perfect boot? Can one boot meet all of our many and varied boot-wearing needs?
The Manolo must answer, no, there is no such thing as the Platonic perfect-for-the-every-occasion boot. This is why God invented the shoe closet, so that we may store our perfect-for-walking-around-Manhattan boots next to our perfect-for-working-uptown boots, while we are wearing our perfect-for-downtown-playing boots.
Happily, although ultimate perfection may be beyond the reach of mortals, there are still good, general purpose boots which will satisfy most of your day-to-day needs. Here is the Aden from Delman, one such low-heel, knee-high, classic that will serve many of your needs.

Manolo says, her is the unusual and attractive shoe from the Delman, one that would be suitable for wearing into the place of employment. And yet, even as these shoes are suitable for the professional wearing, the combination of the patent and the suede gives the shoe just the right quantity of fashion drama.

Manolo says, the New York Times has announced the “first” shoe trend of the new spring!
The snow hadn’t disappeared from the streets of New York and already the first trend of spring could be seen up and down Madison Avenue: the revival of flat ballet-style shoes. In the 1950s, they were a popular alternative to spindly high heels; designers of calf-length full skirts showed their fashions with ballet slippers made by Capezio. At the time, such shoes were not commercially available. But today many manufacturers produce variations of the ballet flat.
The “first trend”? Hardly. The ballet flat has been stylish for at the least the past three seasons.
None the less, here are the few pairs the Manolo finds most attractive.

These flats from the Delman have the most wonderful springy colors.
These are from the French Sole and have the unusual quality of being both elegant and cute. Who knew such the thing was even possible?

Here is another of the shoes of the French Sole, this time in the patent leather, which is also the trend of the season.

Manolo says, here is the Manolo’s latest column for the Express of the Washington Post.
Dear Manolo,
What types of shoes should I wear with a long denim skirt and what is your opinion on wearing sneakers with a long skirt?
Carrie
Manolo says, this is the rare question that presents two potential fashion disasters in the same sentence.
In answer to the first question, what to wear with the long denim skirt, the Manolo would answer “the house slippers”, as he would not want you to leave the home with this upon your body.
The long denim skirt says one of the two things to the Manolo: Yippee Ki Yay! Calamity Jane has finally come to town! Or this woman is the suburban matron on the way to her home canning classes.
As for the wearing of the sneakers with the long skirts, the Manolo would say absolutely not, unless you are a) the 18 year old hottie, in which case you may wear with impunity anything upto and including the burlap sack, or b) if you wish to look exactly like the Jan and the Dean’s “Little Old Lady From Pasadena”.
Go Granny, Go Granny, Go Granny, Go.
What should one wear with the non-denim casual long skirt? The Manolo recommends something like this charming “Work-V” flat from the Delman.

Manolo says, here is the Manolo’s latest column for the Express of the Washington Post.
Dear Manolo,
My husband and I are going to Miami Beach for a week-long vacation this winter. We love to walk, and we love the nightlife. So, I’m looking for some flat shoes comfortable enough to stroll in for miles, but also fabulous enough to get me in the door of the clubs.
Maria
Manolo says, ayyyyyy! To be in Miami during the winter, it is the perfect time!
The season of the hurricanes is past, the weather is pleasant and warm, and the palm trees along the Ocean drive are bedecked with the twinkling holiday lights, reminding you that you are happily not shoveling the snow nor fist-fighting in the suburban mall for the last Ticklish Elmo Extreme.
Indeed, for the person from the north, everyday in Miami is the sort of Christmas Day, the crazy, pastel-colored, Ron Rico fueled, toasty warm holiday.
“Hooray! Santy Claus is arriving tonight on the jet-ski!”
Naturally, you will want the festive shoe, one that fully expresses your joy, and so the Manolo would recommend the Taj-Kss from the Delman, the jeweled thong sandal that comes in the golden color known as “sunshine.”
