And the super fantastic winner was the MiscMama, who submitted the entry which paired the Giuseppe Zanotti geometric wedge sandals with this green purse, the white sunglasses, and this simple Isaac Mizrahi white dress from the Target.

The Shoes for the Navy Blue Clothes

Monday, April 23rd, 2007
By Manolo the Shoeblogger

Manolo says, one of the Manolo’s internet friends has asked him the question.

Dear Manolo:

Please help. I am a CPA, and as such, I am accustomed to relying on rules to help me make decisions. I am unsure of the specifics on several shoe rules, so am turning to you, the highest authority thereon, for clarification.

I was of the belief that ladies should never wear black shoes with navy blue business clothing. I thought the rule was that navy blue, brown or cordovan were the only acceptable choices for shoe color. Have the rules changed?

In addition, what are the rules for the wearing of suede shoes? The wearing of suede shoes seems wrong to me during the day in the spring and summer, but okay during the day in the fall and winter, or anytime of the year at night. Please advise if such a rule exists.

Thank you very much for your assistance.

Rebecca

Unlike the summer-only rule about the white shoes, which the Manolo suggests you mostly ignore, the rule about the navy blue clothes and the black shoes is one you should mostly not ignore.

The problem is that the navy blue does not have the glamourous connotations, instead we think of it as the professional or the nautical color, and thus when we pair it with the black shoes it has the potential to become too drab, or too uniform. (Black clothing and black shoes do not suffer from this drabness because black has the glamourous associations.)

The trick to the navy blue clothing is to wear the shoes that offer the color contrast, such as the tans, the cordovans, the creams (especially in the springtime), and if you wish to really make the statement, the light blues and the greens.

Here are the pair of the super fantastic, cream-colored Giuseppe Zanotti shoes to wear with the navy blue clothing.

As for the suede shoes being acceptable only in the fall or the winter, or during the nighttime, the Manolo does not consider this the rule so much as the powerful suggestion.

Finally, and most importantly, the Manolo asks his friend the CPA Rebecca, why is she worrying about the navy and the suede? Now that the tax day has passed, should she not be laying on the tropical beach with the Raspberry Jumborita and the cabaña boy?

Solvitur Ambulando

Manolo says, one of the Manolo’s many internet friends has asked the Manolo the question.

Dear Manolo,

How do you walk gracefully in a pair of beautiful high heels? I’ve never learned to walk in them because I always thought I was too tall until I started reading your column. But when I try to walk in them or even stand up in them, I resemble an ungainly water buffalo, and it is very hard to stay upright. Please help!

Thank you,

Kim

How does one get to the Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice.

But in seriousness, the Manolo cannot enough recomend simply putting the shoes on the feets and striding out into the world, and doing this over and over again until the walking in the heels becomes the second nature.

However, if more guidance is needed, you may perhaps try walking like the native American scout, smoothly, heel-to-the-toe, while swinging the arms for balance and keeping the toes pointed to the front.

Start with the chunky heeled shoes for the balance and then move to the stilletos once you have mastered the basic stride.

Soon, with the practice you will be able to walk confidently in shoes like these beautiful open-toed pumps from the Giuseppe Zanoti.

Viva Las Vegas!

Thursday, March 23rd, 2006
By Manolo the Shoeblogger

Manolo says, the Manolo he has finally recovered enough from his most recent adventures in the City of Sin with the Posse Manolo to at last give the report to his many internet friends.Wynn

For the Manolo the highlights of the trip they were the new Wynn hotel, with the dinner at the Boulud Brasserie at the Wynn’s magnificent Lake of Dreams.

All the Manolo can say about the Wynn is that it is worth the expense. Trust the Manolo, if like the Manolo you are the lover of oppulence, and the demander of obsequious service, you will enjoy the Wynn.

As for the dining, it is not the secret that the Manolo he has long been the devoted admirer of the Daniel Boulud, and so naturally he had the high expectations for his meal. He was not disappointed. But beyond the cuisine, the settings of the restaurant at the Wynn’s Lake of Dreams were beyond what could possibly be described. The Manolo he is accustomed to the phoney-baloney, animatronic, Disneyesque attractions of the Vegas, but he was stunned by the unconventional beauty of this man-made feature. It must be seen to be believed, especially at night.

Of course, for the Manolo no trip to the Las Vegas would complete without the trip to the Forum at the Caesar’s Palace.

It is at the Forum Shops where where the Manolo contracted his current madness for the wedges.

The reasons for this they are many and manifest. Look, for the example, at this magnificent, over-the-top wedge from the Giuseppe Zanotti, which the Manolo discovered at the Zanotti store in the Caesar’s Forum.

Very Vegas, no?

Naturally, the Manolo convinced one the members of his Posse Manolo to purchase these shoes, which were then worn to dinner at the the Joel Rubochon in the MGM that very evening. (The second of two superb meals the Manolo consumed while on his mini-vacation.)

Also found at the Zanotti store were these beautiful wedges.

And so one may see how the Manolo could become obsessed with the wedges for the spring, what with the so many beautiful wedges available now from the designers.

Thus, the Manolo would judge this trip to the Las Vegas to be the complete, exhausting, and most satisfying success.

Lady of the Certain Age

Thursday, September 22nd, 2005
By Manolo the Shoeblogger

Manolo says, here is today’s colum of the Manolo from the Express of the Washington Post. As you can see, it is about the shoes for the ladies of the certain age.

Dear Manolo,

I am a woman “of a certain age” who can now wear neither high heeled shoes, nor ballet flats. Consequently, I am having trouble finding stylish shoes.

Duffi

Manolo says, it is indeed true, the age it makes the physical demands that we all must eventually meet. However, this it does not mean that we cannot look as stylish and alluring as possible while waiting to pay this unavoidable bill.

And so the Manolo he would recommend to his friend, the lady of the certain age who cannot wear the high heels or the flats, this shoe, the E5535 from the Guiseppe Zanotti.

It has the comfortable one and the half inch kitten heel, the peek-a-boo upper, and the sexy strap for the ankle. Of the course, this shoe it would be perfect for any lady, of any age, who wishes to look the best.

P.S. The Manolo he has received many question in the past few weeks about finding the comfortable and stylish flats, and shortly he will address this most important topic.
