My outfit--refined yet wild, respectable yet wicked--is inspired by the Greek shipping business itself. The occasion is jazz brunch in the bougainvillea-filled courtyard of an urbran eatery.

The top:

The necklaces:

The shades:

The bag:

And, of course, the brilliant Celine ankle strap pump:

Grand total:
$196, leaving a few bucks to tip the band for their rendition of "Cousin Mary"

Oh that crazy Monique! She has been dating that Greek billionaire Stavros off and on for so many months and traveling to such exotic places while you are slaving away at your nonprofit agency for the few pennies with which to buy soup and day-old bread! That is okay, you are saving the world while Monique is seeing it. And although you do occasionally tire of the monologues about the wonderful Stavros, the marvelous Stavros, the dear Stavros, you and Monique have been friends since high school and you are glad she is so happy. And now such fun! Monique is going to introduce you to Nikos, the reputedly handsome and debonair cousin of Stavros! It is to be drinks after work on a weekday, so as to be of the low pressure atmosphere. Monique has even given you the shoes which can go from work to evening, but what to wear?

OK, here we go.

These shoes call for an outfit from Talbots.com, one with a sweater for keeping warm in the late afternoon while sipping a fine wine on the deck of the Greek man's boat, far out in the blue Mediterranean.

Cardigan on sale for under $22:

Cream leather belt to match the shoes, available for under $20 at shop.com:

Pencil skirt, $108:

The shoes:

Leaves a total of $50 for the white shell that is already in my closet, a subtle pair of stockings, and these mother-of-pearl earrings:

They cost $38.50 from walshbrothers.co.uk

If I ever owned a pair of shoes like this, I would go super casual, like I didn't know my shoes were worth $3.2 million, but stay true to the colours of the shoe (no pure white with cream, thanks), their girlish/sophisticate lines and appeal, and my love of cartoonish jewelry.

This is my first post and my first submission! Please to enjoy:

I tried to work with texture and have one really nice piece. The super fun shorts have silky sidepanels and are probably the most adorable pants i've seen all year.

These shoes inspired me to go with a more subtley sexy outfit, one that the nice and handsome cousin of the billionaire Stavros would no doubt appreciate.

A classic pencil skirt from Shopbop with an interesting button detail, on sale for $115 American dollars http://www.shopbop.com/shop/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441793584&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302029886&fm=sale&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395181057&bmUID=1179876401521

A seemingly sweet shirt that can show a hint of cleavage from Smart Set for $60 Canadian dollars
http://www.smartset.ca under Favourite Things > Fashion Alert : Pencil Skirt
I took a screenshot of the page  http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b186/anthraxmartini/redblouse.jpg

A black patent leather clutch from Target for $14.99 US.
http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=br_1_2/601-8672372-7582501?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=1&asin=B000MNMKGM

A fern necklace from etsy that reminds me of one of my favourite Foxy Originals necklaces
$10.00
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=6043412

And last but in no way least, the gorgeous shoes your crazy friend gave you.

Coming it at $199.99. This poor girl knows how to use every last penny.

The shoes have a great retro, Rosalind-Russell-in-His-Girl-Friday vibe about them so the outfit should reflect that spirit without being 'costumey'. As you are a but a simple, earnest working girl meeting your BFF, her millionaire boyfriend and the boyfriend's chum for cocktails in Midtown after a long day at your meaningful but low paying job with a UN disaster relief fund, I suggest the following:

This brown floral jersey dress from Tahari on sale for $63.98 at Loehman's or Smartbargains.com. With its cap sleeves, swingy skirt, classic print and keyhole neckline, its retro but not over the top.

Next, you need a great ladylike bag that picks up the theme of the outfit. This kelly green frame bag from Xhiliration from Target for $10.49 does the trick. The color is bold and unexpected but the tortoiseshell accents complement the brown print of the dress and the trim on the shoes . . .

Finally, add some bold pieces of jewelry (in the same hues as the bag) that look like you got them from grandma's hope chest yet still feel fresh and modern. These lever-back drop earrings ($22.00) and this chunky bracelet ($16.80) from 1928 jewelry is just the ticket!

The total outfit comes to $113.27. If you are so busy saving the world that you can't get to Loehman's, Target or Macy's and need to order everything on line, shipping to your modest yet tastefully furnished walk-up will set you back another $25.85 for a total of $139.12. That leaves you with $60.88--enough to donate to your favorite charity or, if you're feeling whimsical enough, to treat everyone to a round of drinks at that outdoor cafe in the Village . . .

These shoes appear white and black on my monitor, thus my color palette on the previous page.  Apparently they look cream and chocolate to others.  In any case, good luck to all!

I must say these shoes are much easier to work with than those ugly multi-colored plattforms from last week, but buying on a budget is not an easy thing to accomplish. It must hard to be poor! (just kidding, I'm ALWAYS on a budget) Anyways, this is what I found, and I'm sure the poor girl will impress the Greek guy if she wears the following:

Cotton twill bib-front blazer from Banana Republic:

$88.00

Florencia Dress from Forever 21:

$27.80

Pleated Aqua Clutch from my dearly beloved Target:

$14.99

Mashka turquoise & green stone linear earrings from Bluefly.com:

$49.00

Stretch pearl bracelet from Claire's:

$12.50

And since our poor girl must be very pretty, she only needs Vinyl Gloss High Shine Lipgloss Snog from Walgreens.com:

$ 5.29

Grand Total: $192.29 Phew!
