Demeter by Repetto -- B.T.O. #4

Manolo says, this week, the fine peoples at the
Shoefly.com
and their blog
Shoeflyer
have provided the Manolo with the shoes for the contest and the judges for the contest, and the shoes for the contest prize!
And Look, here is the shoe, the summery ballet flat from Repetto which goes by the name Demeter--"Queenly Demeter, bringer of seasons and giver of good gifts"--the shoe fit for the sister of Zeus!
So the challenge this week it is to build the outfit around this shoe. At the end of the week, the peoples at the
Shoeflyer blog
will pick the winner, who will then receive the pair of these shoes as the prize!

For these unusual and punchy shoes, I pick an unusual and punchy color combination with this beautiful skirt:

and some fun jewelry to complete the look:

Quirky? Yes. Fun? Definitely? For wallflowers and the otherwise faint of heart? Absolutely not!

I went for a very young, casual and 'summery' look, as I thought it is what fits these shoes best. Notice how the pleating on the shorts repeats the one on the shoes.

I envision these shoes strolling down the street, shopping, on a hot summer day. And after a wonderful day of retail therapy, a drink on the patio of a local restaurant, throwing on a sweater, to enjoy a summer's evening with friends.
I always liked orange and blue together, so this tank would work perfectly, in my opinion
And a light, summery (and very in right now) white eyelet skirt, that would flatter almost any woman.
A nice big convertible bag to match the shirt, and to carry one's life in.
To match the shoes, a long cornicello necklace in orange.
Topped off with some simple gold hoops
With a loose and comfortable, but still stylish sweater to throw on overtop!
And of course, the shoes! (I LOVE these, by the way!)

Alrighty--here goes:
Aim: to build the outfit
around the shoes
, with the shoes starring and everything else playing a strong supporting role.
Bright print dress leaves enough leg showing to keep the ankle strap from becoming a
cankle
strap, but is still long enough to keep undies safely under. Soft, light denim jacket to combat sudden summer storms or over-air-conditioning. Warm goes-anywhere leather bag big enough to hold the jacket when you're not wearing it. Clean, small gold hoops. Top off the whole thing with a bright, warm scarlet lipstick just patted into the lips, and we're off!

I went for something that's classy but still casual enough to go get ice cream in. Once again, had I the cash for this stuff (especially the jacket; I need a new denim jacket), I'd rock this like whoa.

I wanted a contemporary Jackie O 60's vibe because the color of the shoes is a great twist on a classic:

As I am a worker bee on a budget, I thought I'd pick my options from (what I consider to be) more accessible sites/prices:
Of course, lovely summery shoes:
Dark denim shorts from the Gap:
Sunny yellow shirt from Old Navy:
Silky green headband from eBay:
Crazy flowered bag from Target:
Bright bangles from Target:

I decided that these shoes would look cute with shorts so I came up with the following ensemble:
The shoes:
Tank:
http://www.kohls.com/products/product_page_vanilla3.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=423182573&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=258211121&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=3440897&bmUID=1182282480006
City short:
http://www.kohls.com/products/product_page_vanilla3.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=420180099&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=444303935&bmUID=1182282471707
Pashmina (in case of a chill):
http://www.thepashminastore.com/Pashmina-Wrap-Orange-3-Ply-p/ppw3-78.htm
Since I tried to match the Pashmina to the shoes, I felt like I needed jewelry in a different color:
Necklace:
http://kiwijewels.com/p_images/necklaces/lariat_necklace/lariat_necklace_blue_champ.jpg
Earrings:
http://kiwijewels.com/p_images/earrings/briolette_earrings/cascade_earring_blue_chalce.jpg
Finally, to tie the colors of the shoes and pashmina to the jewelry (because I'm an anal freak who needs everything to match
) I chose this clutch:

These shoes are a breath of fresh air! They're not just any ol' ballet flat, the ankle tie makes them fun and very chic. When I saw these shoes my first thought was of beautiful orange coral, so I went with a theme of coral, straw, and gold. There are hints of coral in the piping of the shirt and in the jewelry, but I wanted the shoes to be the focal point for that color. Straw for its texture (and for sun protection!). Gold brings the orange color of the shoes and the straw in the bag and hat together, and gives the outfit a pop of metallic color.
This outfit is perfect for an afternoon stroll along the Seine with the fabulous boy.

Orange is my absolute most favorite color! I love these shoes, how cheerful.
The minute I saw these I knew I wanted the lovely color of the shoe to be the focus. I didn't want any bright patters to steal the show (though the shoes would be equally lovely with an outfit with patterns). I choose a simple color pallette of white, tangerine, and turquoise/teal.
I wanted to create something I could wear to work and out afterwards that is affordable (thus all the Target and Kohls finds). I also added a little citrine and diamond bling that I can't afford, but could hint to the husband for my anniversary.
The outfit:
The Goods:
Tangerine Ruched Puff Sleeve

Apt. 9 Ava Pedal Pushers
in white
$19.99 @ Kohls

Turquoise Chips Necklace

$16.99 @ Target
Citrine and Diamond Earrings
$225.00 @ diamond.com

For the funky orange ballet flats, I chose the Lux Embroidered Mexicana dress from Urban Outfitters, which is fun and summery and doesn't take itself too seriously (much like the shoes!). For the accessories, I wanted to bring out some of the other colors in the dress, with the leaf earrings acting as an oppositional hue to the orange and the bracelets tying together all the elements of the outfit. The purse is a muted color, so as not to clash with the colorful craziness of the rest of the outfit, but the vine motif adds some texture complementary to the embroidery on the dress.
Hooray!

As a UVA alum, when I see orange, I automatically think of dark blue as the perfect complement. Wahoowa!
My outfit consists of a summery navy linen top that will show off a nice tan, with some khaki linen pants. The bag is the splurge, a Kate Spade straw roll tote, and shell earrings and bracelet finish the look.
