Please tell me there is an orthopedic surgeon stationed every 100m, or I shall have to call Human Rights Watch.

I do that to catch the bus all the time! Where’s my prize money?

Hmmmm, what brand and model shoe did the winner wear. I can see endorsements and a race circuit for high heel sprinting. I think I see a need to take a few pills and have a nice lie down.

The Race of the High Heels
This brings to mind the history of the high heel. Who could invent such a thing that causes so much pain for women?

Twisted and broken ankles aside - the woman in the top photo is also wearing shoes too short for her feet!

I like how a lot of the women are also wearing pretty dresses. I mean, hey, if you’re going to wear high heels to run in, you might as well go all out and dress up too!

I hate toe-hang more than anything on the face of this.

As someone who lived through the cold war and who remembers the photos of the stout Russian women in the gender neutral, comradely attire from that era, I am very encouraged by this shift in the fashion consciousness of the Russian women and their appreciation of the stylish possibilities for the feet. One must make allowances for some faux pas as they are relatively new to this concept and have only recently emerged from their dowdy Buster Browns.

Maybe they are like Cinderella, and are afraid of losing their shoes?

This is a recipe for broken ankles!

To small shoes aside did anyone see her feet? It looks like she has corns or blisters on her toes. I have to say it’s a personal irritation to me to see anyone wear nice open shoes, sandals, etc. with nasty feet that look like they have not seen proper care in ages. For god sake if you are going to wear summer shoes get a pedicure or do one yourself. Please!!!

Oh MEOW! Who cares if the crazy Russian ladies want to dress crazy and run in high heels. More power to ‘em.
July 13th, 2006 at 6:47 am
You know, in Washington, DC every year there is a Drag Race, where drag queens run not only in high heels but feather headdresses and sequined dresses as well. Perhaps they could race the Russian ladies in the spirit of friendly international competition?

I’m with you Eve! Nothing makes my skin crawl like grown-out polished toes and lizard-like heels. Eww, just thinking about it turns my stomach!

Please, someone tell this poor babushka that the tape wrap makes her ankles look fat.
