Manolo says, the Manolo he has linked before to the Foot Talk, the blog about the history of the shoes and the walking and the feets that is very well written and, for the Manolo, endlessly fascinating.
I was indeed fascinated by the entry about the poulaine, the phallic shoe that eventually grew to such ridiculous proportions that it had to be chained to the knee. I can only hope that some young, misguided designer will try to revive the style. Of course, I would want mine with the flesh-colored extensions, which would allow my poulaines “to flap with lifelike mobility.”
