The Project Runway 2, Week 2
Manolo says, how quickly does it take for the Manolo to be proven as horribly incorrect? One week.
Manolo finds the Raymundo’s East Los Angeles pachuco gay boy way to be charming. And to the mind of the Manolo, he is one of the few who has his own fashion vision, or at least one that is worth paying attention to. If the Manolo could pick the longshot to win, it would be the Raymundo.
Oy gevelt, the Manolo he still loves the little flamboyant Raymundo, but the outfit he made for the Barbie it was beyond awful, the sort of thing that would be produced by the worst student in the Home Ec class at the reform school.
Sadly, the Raymundo, he deserved to be ejected from the show.
Also, the Manolo he now pities the poor Santino, to be posessed of such obvious talent, but to be so insecure and childish about it, and to be so nasty about the deficiencies of others. This it is not easy for the Manolo to watch.
The Santino he must be humbled if he is to win. Perhaps the omniscient Tim Gunn, he can take the Santino to the woodshed, as he did this week with the ridiculous Andraeea ae? ea? eea? aaee?
The Manolo he must now also apologize to the Nick for judging him so harshly last week. He has turned out to be more pleasant than not, and he is very good designer.
As for the rest of this motley pack, the Manolo he stands by his judgement of the previous week.
Of the course, the real question, it is why has no one yet given the Tim Gunn his own television show?
Did the Manolo say show?

I loved Diana’s outfit for the red boodie combo. Good to see she is not getting pegged as the nerd-girl. Also, what was with Marla’s cranberry atrocity? Over-the-top Hooker Barbie won’t really sell well at Christmas!

This unfortunately doesn’t have to do with Project “Cry While You Use the Word Bedraggled” Runway… but I just thought I should be the barer of bad news.
Birkenstocks have just gotten uglier and even *more* expensive.

As you would say– Ayyy!!!

Manolo is really far too modest. Other blogs are mere will o’ the wips compared to the intellectual vigor of his insights into some of the most important aspects of contemporary society. Furlagirl knows how to pick winners. It was she who detected that the magisterial Normblog, of the in-depth analysis of international relations, schooled in Marxist political theory with a dash of Jewish humour, would storm to the top of the UK Best Blog poll, and had she been aware of Manolo a little sooner, she would have drawn it to wider attention and made sure that he won in his category too. This is partly because fulrlagirl is a member of the shadowy cabal called the Elders of Zion, who actually run the world and control the supply of fabulous handbags according to our pleasure. We might be a little busy in the next few days with the President of Iran, but don’t worry, we will be back.

I would sign up for TimGunnTV in a heartbeat.

I loves me some Tim Gunn. Raymundo had obviously not played with enough Barbies when he was a little girl.

La BellaDonna she would sign up for TimGunnTV in the half the heartbeat. If there is another life, she is hoping to go to the design school with the Tim Gunn as her teacher.

Oh Navel says that the Santino has indeed grown tiresome with his endlessly snotty remarks and deserves the Michael Kors smackdown.

Can we give a shout-out to Nick and his gorgeous design? It just made me so happy and wishing it was still socially acceptable for me to have Barbies.

I loved Nick’s design and was horrified by the idea of the “My Scene Barbie.”
She looked just fine before, dammit. A pox on whoever invented “Bratz.”

Sign me up for TimTV. Manolo, do you subscribe to his podcasts?
I was rooting for Raymundo too, I definitely didn’t think he’d be gone so quickly. But that outfit was awful. Barbie SO doesn’t want to be her mother. As if.

I love Nick. He’s my early pick to win. I WANT to like Santino because he’s certainly talented and there’s something about him that I find endearing, but there’s so much more about him that makes me want to smack him upside the head with my (faux) Birkin.

Furlagirl, if you are an Elder of Zion, then please put down the handbag and tend to the crazyman of Iran immediately. And when you have done with that, please tell the Annalucia where you are keeping the leather handbags of the silver-metallic color which are NOT done in the hobo style and which are NOT festooned with unnecessary buckles and straps. Moltissime grazie.

Poor Raymundo. He was so cute but I must admit I did not like his design. I understand what he was going on about, though.
Little girls grow up so fast now, it is our modern way of things. He seemed to think that this was sad, maybe inappropriate. And he designed accordingly. Not by the rules but by his feelings.
When I was taking fashion sketching for the first time and the instructor gave us the “correct” proportions (10 heads tall! skinny! freakishly long {yes, elegant} limbs!) I raised my hand and asked, timidly, if we really wanted to perpetuate this unusual body type. Her answer: if you want the job, yes.
So while I agree with his sentiments, sometimes one must choose one’s battles. Give Barbie the flirty short skirt now so you can give the real ladies something elegant later, when you’re a proven designer. OR if your beleifs mean more to you than a steady income, go for it.
And so Raymundo is out. Even though I’m certain he’s a better designer than that. *shrug*
And what up with Santino pouting in the corner like a little girl?! You’re talented, sweetie. Grow a pair why don’t you?

Oh dear Santino. I want so bad to both slap you in the face *and* buy your dresses. We can’t all be at the top of the heap all the time, dear.
Nick’s dress was a stroke of genius. And I was surprised at how “barbie” Diana’s creation was.
But Manolo, after Kara’s atrocity, you must admit that she is unoriginal and slightly sad.
Tres Francaise 19 years ago
Amen to the jj….the Kara is surely not long for the runway; neither is the Marla. Hopefully the final three will include the Nick & the Chloe. Both Monsieur Francais and I are looking forward to the Santino (hopefully) being ripped to pieces by the Nina Garcia, truly une femme tres formidable, n’est-ce pas?
And now, la tres francaise goes to worship at the altar of the Tim Gunn. Has reality TV ever introduced us to anyone simultaneously more knowledgeable, charismatic, and kind?
