Dear Manolo,In two weeks I’m heading off to the Ivy League college of my dreams. Can you recommend a pair of stylish boots that won’t leave me broke?
Jenna
Manolo says, ayyyy! Congratulations to the Manolo’s friend!
Sadly, the Manolo himself never enjoyed the benefits of the college education, as in his early adult years he was too busy working away at his chosen profession, shoe polishing.
But, he is happy to report that he now counts many graduates of the Ivy Leagues among his friends. Oh how the Manolo envies them and their college experiences: the binge drinking, the cramming for the tests, the incoherent lectures by the tenured savants, the late night “bull” sessions that devolve into fistfights with the unhygienic roommates.
But, in the end, it is all worth it, if only for the frequent and importuning calls, letters, and emails from the alumni “development” officers. And, of the course, for the opportunity to casually drop the words “went to school in New Haven” into any conversation.
As for your boot, here is the Canter from the Etienne Aigner, the handsome and reasonably priced riding boot in the chocolate color that would be the versatile addition to your wardrobe.

Hee hee!!! You are so spot on with that Manolo! As for the folks to went to “a liberal arts college in Cambridge” friends of mine that went to Harvard told me that they actually instruct them in the art of pretending not to come across as condescending when they say that while actually being condescending.

Nice boots! I shall have to order them for the “fall,” such as it is in Texas.

Check out the clearance section at http://www.brooksbrothers.com. They have several pairs of boots that are at least 50% off.

I see the LW is already practicing the art of annoying everyone around her with talk of the “Ivy League college of [her] dreams”. Still, nice boots.

Oh, come on! It’s a big deal to get into (and an even bigger deal to get out of) an Ivy League school. If this girl has to look for the boots that won’t break the bank, she’s probably going on scholarship and has worked her butt off to get there. I think congratulations are in order.

Class Factotum: Agreed.
Heartiest congratulations to Jenna, and I hope you do exceedingly well!

Pretty! And the heels are low enough that the student who must do much walking, scrambling to get to class all the way across campus in only ten minutes, will not break an ankle (or damage the shoe).
Congratulations, Jenna! College is a wonderful adventure.
