Shoes for the Sputnik Anniversary
Manolo says, yes, the 50th anniversary of the Sputnik launching was last week, but the Manolo just saw these handsome shoes from the Stuart Weitzman bearing the most appropriate name Endorbit and thought they were appropriate to the occasion. Even better, this color is said to be “wood cosmos”.
Do not ask the Manolo what the phrase “wood cosmos” means. He only knows that it sounds cool and space age-ish, much like the name “Sputnik”.

The Deja has seen these shoes up close, and they are indeed Out of This World.

“Sputnik” is just Russian for satellite… literally, if you want to break the Slavic root down, it means something like a little thing with a circular path.
But enough of my Russian language geekery– want the shoes!

Zappos made a boo-boo: the color is Wood, and the leather is cosmos patent, “cosmos” being a Stuart Weitzman term for a certain glossy finish (not to be confused with aniline patent, quasar patent, and soft patent, also from Mr. Stuart).
How do I know all this? I’ve written copy for many, many shoe catalogs featuring the wacky Weitzman-isms. For Spring 2008, for example, we will be encountering Weitzman styles named Obladi (as in the Beatles song), Jellystone, and Buckup.
