Rayon and Nylon
Manolo says, here are the few reminders that the past was not always so golden:
First, Rayon, the wonder fabric, as seen through the eyes of Seventeen Magazine.
Secondly, the ponchos have, as the Manolo has said in the past, always been the fashion scourge.

The Manolo No-Poncho Pledge
“I, Jennie, swear on the head and/or the grave of my sainted granny to never wear, buy, knit, crochet, or fashion from the old throw rug, the poncho. And if the poncho it is given to me as the gift, I will graciously thank the giver and then, when she has left, put the poncho into the dog’s bed and/or the trash as the case she may be. Only by doing these things faithfully can I help end for the good of the humanity the scourge that is the poncho. So help me Manolo.â€
The only exceptions would be if I were lost in the Andes or Peru and were freezing to death, or forced by certain political elements to kill the mooses to survive and had to wear the pelt. Since both are unlikely (I pray to all the patron saints of shoes and fashion) I believe I can stick to this pledge.

Ooh, somewhere in my mother’s house is an entire collection of polyester yarn knit ponchos sized for children between the ages of 3 and 10! My grandmother was a prolific knitter, and since my sister and I were young during the 1970’s, we received many fine ponchos during our childhood years. I actually have photos of us wearing them on occasions.
I do regret that my grandmother never ventured into the world of wool or cotton yarns, or into slightly more structured garments, but oh well, she made them with love (and while watching football and basketball games on TV).
