Whose Shoes Wednesday…The Answer!

Manolo asked, whose shoes?

Good Lord, the woman is 70! How does she do it?

Manolo answers, it is the Tina Turner!

Congratulations to the Manolo’s internet friend theDiva, who was the first to correctly guess the identity of this force of nature.

Most women, of any age, cannot even walk in the Christian Louboutin stiletto pumps, and yet, Tina Turner, at 70 years of age, can do the 90-minute, high energy, rock-n-roll show in them!

Women More Likely to Remember First Shoe

Manolo says, here is one of those seemingly surprising stories that surprises the Manolo not in the least.

Whether they are a pair of Manolo Blahnik’s, Jimmy Choos, such as those worn by Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex and the City, or just an ordinary pair of high street shoes, more than 92 per cent of women could remember the first shoes they bought with their own money.

Less than two, however, in three recalled the name of the person they first kissed, the survey found.

An overwhelming 96 per cent of women said they regretted having thrown away a pair of shoes, while only 15 per cent felt sorry at dumping a boyfriend.

Manolo says, it is Monday and you are back at your desk, diong that thing that you do, although you are very distracted, having entered the home-stretch of the annual Festival of Blatant Consumerism.

Not that the Manolo is complaining about the giving or the getting of gifts, mind you.

Indeed, what could be better than getting the small, appropriately extravagant gift from someone with whom you share the relationship of mutual affection?

Is this the trick question?

Look! Here is the most beautiful, festive and golden, peep-toe pumps from the Brian Atwood.

Manolo the Columnist: The Blundstone

Manolo says, here is the Manolo’s latest column for the Express of the Washington Post.

Dear Manolo,

My dear husband fancies himself an outdoorsman, and although he did plenty of hiking and hunting when he was younger, these days he mostly confines his outdoor activities to raking the leaves and long walks in the park. What can you recommend as a Christmas gift that will flatter his self-image without seeming ridiculously woodsy?

Claire

Manolo says, it is true, that in his youth, your man occasionally marched into the great American wilderness with nothing more than the pocket canopener and the bag of pork rinds, emerging one week later covered with large patches of poison ivy, mutant mosquito bites, and enough outdoorsy credibility to last many month, before the whole odious process had to be repeated.

However, once most men enter the age of the middle, such arduous expeditions no longer seem perhaps so pleasant or useful, especially, if like the Manolo, one gets winded walking to the corner for the demitasse of cappuccino. And thus sedentary activities replace the more uncertain pleasures of rough camping in primitive natural settings.

Still, one needs to look sufficiently rugged and manly, without falling over the line into lumberjackery. This is why the Manolo loves Australia’s favorite outdoor boot, the Blundstone. And what could possibly be more manly and rugged than Australian outback boots?

Valentino Side Bow Peep-Toe Pumps For the Tuesday

Manolo says, it is Tuesday, and you are back at your desk, Christmas barreling down upon you like the runaway train filled with stocking stuffers and mistletoe.

You have tried to minimize the damage this year by doing much of your shopping on the computer, although you know, in your heart, that nothing is better than shoving your way through the crowds at Toys-R-Us and fist-fighting with the other parents for the last Mr. Squiggles Zhu Zhu Pets Hamster.

This struggle for the perfect gift is so atavistic, so primal, so brutal, so… jolly!

Sadly, all of this computer shopping has domesticated your annual holiday struggle, and frankly, although it has made your life less angsty, you still miss the combat.

What can you say. Ever since you were the little girl you have associated Christmas with knocking people down at the mall. Gary blames your mother.

“That woman,” he said one day as she drove away in her Cadillac Eldorado, striking the neighbor’s hedge, “is a menace.”

Yes, your mother is the menace.

But, in her favor, she fought purse-and-nail to make every Christmas the best ever. Indeed, your sister still has the Talky Crissy Doll she joyously unwrapped on Christmas morning, 1972, although, sadly, since early 1976, Crissy’s hair has been stuck in the Dorothy Hammill bob, unable to grow thanks to your attempts at giving her the makeover.

You know what? Maybe a quick trip to the mall wouldn’t hurt. Just pop in, shove the couple of shoppers to the ground, and pop out bearing the sack of presents.

Good times, good times.

Look, here is the beautiful Valentino Side Bow Peep-Toe Pumps to sooth your savage breast.
