Manolo says, here to enliven your Wednesday is the pair of the hot booties from the Kenneth Cole New York.

Yes, during the working day you appear to be the uptown girl, living in the white bread world. But, the truth it is more complex, and when your day of drudgery is complete it is onto the 6 and back to your tiny sublet in the East Village, where you will slip into the black ribbed tights and hot booties to meet your friends for drinks and arguments about the Julian Schnabel.

Dear Manolo,

I need some suitably hot shoes for Halloween. I’m going as a sexy witch.

Manolo says, you may perhaps, like the Manolo, remember when the Halloween was the minor holiday celebrated only by the small childrens dressed up like the ballerinas and the super heroes, and by the teenaged hooligans who threw eggs at the homes of their algebra teachers.

Ayyyy, but now the Halloween it has become the massive celebration of the adult id unbound, the holiday during which even the mildest and mousiest librarians and church ladies unleash their inner hoochies, strutting out into the cool autumnal night wearing the micro-mini skirts and the thigh-high “Pretty Woman” boots.

“Why Ms. Gildersleeves, the Manolo had no idea that you had the Harley-Davidson tattoo in that particular place.”

However, far be it from the Manolo to dampen your enthusiasm for “cutting loose” and appearing in public as the sexy housewife, “June Cleavage”, wearing nothing but the garter belt and flowered apron.

Thus the Manolo would recommend to his witchy friend the Butane by the Charles David as being the suitably eerie black boot, one that would undoubtedly help her place many men under her spell.

They are like the buttons on the pea coat!

And thus these boots are now partaking of the nautical charm of that classic garment, making them the perfect feetwear for the brisk fall day along the shore.

Manolo says, here is the Manolo’s latest column for the Express of the Washington Post.

Dear Manolo,

I’ve been noticing a lot of large cuffed, pirate-inspired boots this season. I’ve always been a pirate-loving girl, and I was hoping you could suggest a pair.

Manolo says, Yo Ho! Yo Ho! The pirate’s boot for thee!

Apparently it is that time again, the time for the cyclical return of the pirate fashion, which comes back every few years dragging its puffy shirts, floppy boots, and crazy teased hair with it.

Yes, these things they look good on the Johnny Depp, who may best be described as the “master of his own fashion ship,” but trust the Manolo, such things will not look good on you. Unless that is, you avoid combining them all at the same time. If you wear the boots do not wear the buccaneer shirt. If you wear the buccaneer shirt, do not wear the Deppian mascara. This is the only way in which you can avoid looking exactly like the Adam Ant, circa 1981.

And so, with this warning in the mind, the Manolo would still recommend the purchase of the piratical boot, but only those that are not ridiculous in their swashbuckling exuberance.

Thus he would suggest the ironically named, Overthetop from the Stuart Weitzman, as being the pirate boot that would not cause your co-workers to snicker and call you Captain Morgan behind your back.

Dear Manolo,

I am looking for a sleek black boot with a medium heel and round toe for everyday city winter wear, something that comes to the knee and looks very narrow in the calf

Manolo says, now that the summer is coming to its inevitable end (barring the early arrival of the global warming) it is time for every super fantastic girl to consider her personal boot situation.

And although everyone wishes to have the warm feets, no super fantastic girl wishes to appear to have the largish calves.

Yes, this desire to appear to be the willowy sylph-like creature of the small calves, who lives solely upon the moonbeams and Diet Fanta, it is the culturally determined and unattainable beauty standard set by the oppressive consumerist medias.

But still, who really wants to have the keg-like calves?

The Manolo knows that such shallowness is to be decried, and that the real beauty comes in the great and marvelous variety of shapes and sizes…but what can one do?

Fashion, it is the cruelest of mistresses.

Thus the Manolo would recommend to his friend this beautiful and somewhat costly boot, the Dostic from the Robert Clergerie.

Manolo says, the latest column of the Manolo it is available at the website of the Express of the Washington Post. Today’s topic it is the shoes for the poor librarian.

Dear Manolo,

I work in a library, so flats or small heels are the best. The one problem is that I have super fantastic shoe aspirations on a flip-flop budget. While I am saving up, are there any minorly fantastic shoes for me?

Manolo says, the librarians they are so smart, knowing that even if you are the poor girl you must save the moneys so that you can purchase the most super fantastic shoes.

Of the course, even while they are saving the moneys the librarians they must have the shoes, as they cannot go barefeeted. No one wishes to see the toes while searching the stacks. It is distracting.

Yes, they could perhaps construct their own super fantastic shoes out of the pieces of the old card catalogs and the library paste, although, unless the librarians are as gifted as the Manolo in the fine art of improvisational cobbling the results they may not be pleasing.

This it is why the Manolo he would recommend for the fall, the pair of the low heeled boots from the Franco Sarto as being the shoes that are both attractive and attractively priced. Would they not look good with the right skirt, something for that moment when the horn-rimmed glasses are removed and the hair is undone?

The topic it is the shoe trends for the fall.

Dear Manolo,

Black boots for brown boots this fall?

Manolo says, yes it is the middle of the stinking hot July, but already for many of the months the Manolo has been thinking about the shoe trends for the autumn of the 2006.

At the very front of the Manolo’s thinking parts are the words “dark” and “baroque”

The Manolo believes that this fall we shall be wearing the shoes and boots in the deeper colors, and that there will be the certain baroque dramatic complexity to those shoes and boots. Look especially for the sculptural heels and perhaps the embroidered and braided materials with the dark ornamentation.

Of the course, the Manolo would also point out to his friends, all the trends aside, that the black boot it is one of the necessary items in any super fantastic girl’s inventory. You must own the pair, as nothing can take their place in certain important situations, such as when you wish to dump your latest no-good boyfriend.

Here is something new from the Mikala that has captured the Manolo’s attention; the handsome boot that perfectly expresses the seasonal trends.

The Boots of the Cowboys

Manolo says, one of the Manolo’s many Australian internet friends has asked the Manolo the question.

Dear Manolo:

On Saturday I found a very special pair of vintage Lucchese cowboy boots, which I ended up buying (see attached — photo taken on cell phone in car right after purchase!). I now have a couple of questions that you probably would be able to answer:

1. Have I made a mistake buying boots of the cowboy this season?

2. If no mistake, what is the best way to wear them now?

Is Jeans-over-boot acceptable, or should I be daring and wear jeans-tucked-into-boot? What about skirts?

I first started wanting a pair of Lucchese boots when I saw them on your blog. When I found this vintage pair, I couldn’t resist. Wearing the boots of the cowboy in Sydney, Australia, however, is definitely making a fashion statement!

Thanks for your help!

The Anne she is the wise woman, as these boots they are exactly to the taste of the Manolo, for as the Manolo has said in the previous bloggings..

Manolo says, it is one of the rules of the Manolo that every super fantastic girl, she needs at the least one pair of the boots of the cowboy. And if you are to own only the single pair you would be wise to to make them very traditional, so that when the fashion it changes (and it always changes) you will not have the pair of the hot-pink ostrich leather boots sitting idle in the closet.

For the Manolo, the boots of the cowboy they are about tradition and function. This it is why the Manolo he loves this basic, very traditional boot from the Lucchese.

And look! This boot that the Anne has purchased, it appears to be the very boot the Manolo has in the past recommended, the sturdy and traditional Lucchese N4540.

As for the questions the Anne asks, the Manolo would answer emphatically, the Anne has not made the mistake buying these boots, for they are the sort of thing that never truly goes out of the style, no matter where you are living.

Boots such as these should mostly be worn with the jeans untucked. The jeans tucked into the boots, to the Manolo, usually seems costumey.

And as for the wearing the boots with the skirts, such look should be reserved only for the special events, such as the hoe-downs and the festive goat ropings.

Boots for the Big Calves

Manolo says, the Manolo he cannot tell you how many times he receives the emails such as the following from his internet friends.

Dear Manolo,

I have a strange problem that has plagued me for years. I have extremely large calves. Not a normal problem, except when I want to buy some knee-high boots!! It’s impossible. I have tried everywhere, I have tried J.Crew which offers wider calf sizes, I have dried elastic insets, I have tried it all and still have no knee-boots. Last time I measured, they were 15-16 inches around (my calves that is!)! No joke. (No risk of cankles here, my ankles are the opposite and are tiny!). Is there any maker you know of, offering boots for larger calves? Should I get custom made boots? Where do you even go to get custom boots? Please help me, I am begging you!

Soulfully searching for boots,

This problem it is sadly one that usually did not have the satisfactory solution. Typically, the boots for the girls of the big calves, they are inferior in the quality and style, and the Manolo he will not recommend such things to his friends.

However, now there appears to be at least one of the better designers of the shoes who is addressing this problem. Behold, the Lumiani 69 Extra Calf!

Lumiani 69 Extra Calf Manolo Likes! Click!
This boot it is made in Italy, and is of the better quality, and the style it is not bad. However, for the Manolo’s friend, the best feature is that it has the circumference around the calf of 18 inches! This it should fit even the most athletic of the legs.
