Manolo says, the Manolo loves the Nancy and the Ann, such beautiful fierce ladies, but sometimes things from the past reappear which cause one to wonder, “what the Hell were they thinking?”

The Maestro

Manolo says, here is the marvelous New York Daily News article on the maestro di tutti maestri, the inimitable Manolo Blahnik.

So when Sofia Coppola needed a designer to re-create the period’s decadent shoes that were handed to the spoiled queen (Kirsten Dunst) on a posh pillow, she called on Blahnik.

Her film, “Marie Antoinette,” opening Oct. 20, is partly based on an Antonia Fraser biography of the queen that takes a particularly sympathetic tack, much like Manolo’s, on the subject.

Movie buff Blahnik started his homework by studying original 18th-century shoes in Paris. The Victoria and Albert museum in London gave him footwear that belonged to the French queen. “So I did some kind of a cross between academic and a little bit of fantasy,” he says.

But then, his shoes – especially the film’s, a collection of candy-colored heels embellished with ribbon and buttons and beads – are a fantasy.

“Indeed, that is the only thing I want to offer to people,” he says. “Of course, I’m like everybody else; I have to do black and brown shoes and a little bit of Mary Janes and satin, but my nature is kind of theatrical, simple and dramatic.”

Yet again, the Maestro proves why he is worthy of our adoration.

Looking for the Fans

Manolo says, occasionally, the Manolo he receives the requests from the entertainment peoples who are in need of the help. Here is one such request.

Looking for Sex & the City fans for new TV show.

My name is Jennifer and I’m working on a brand new television series about fans of TV shows. I’m looking to get in touch with Sex & the City fans, and I’ve asked Manolo to post this message to help me get in touch with big fans of the show. Sex & the City was a relevant and liberating program that reflected the views and attitudes of a generation, so of course everyone is a fan… but we’re only looking for the biggest fans. Are you a fabulous fashionista or a shoeaholic inspired by the series, are you a downtown single gal influenced by Carrie & co, do you use the show as your dating bible, how has the show influenced you? We want to hear from you.

Here’s a little more about our show:

It’s a 26 part documentary series which explores popular TV shows through the eyes of the fans. Each episode will focus on a different program – everything from Bewitched to The Simpsons, and of course Sex & the City – and will feature 2-3 fans of the program from Canada and the US. The series will unearth: why the fans love the show, how watching the show makes them feel, what their friends and family think of their love for the show, and the culture of their particular fandom (individual shows express their fandom differently – look at Sex & the City fans compared to Star Trek fans).

The show will air in Canada on TVtropolis, a new Canadian Network devoted to airing re-runs of classic TV shows. More information about our series can be found at our our company’s website at http://www.peacepoint.tv/pr/ABOUTFANatical.pdf

Come on ladies, let our voices be heard! If you’re interested in participating or may be able to offer assistance please drop me a line at [email protected]

I look forward to your reply,
Jennifer

If you are the truly devoted fan, perhaps you would like to help the Jennifer.

Galveston, Oh Galveston

Manolo says, Huzzah! The Manolo the Shoeblogger he has been quoted in the Galveston County Daily News. Finally, the influence of the Manolo is being felt in the heartland!

As the end of summer approaches, the question looms: Can you wear white shoes after Labor Day?

This question raises as much passionate debate as politics and religion — especially among Southern women.

The traditional rule says you put away your white shoes on Labor Day and don’t take them out until Easter.

[…]

There are dissenters.

“Fashion rules were made to be broken,” said Patricia McCune, who tracks trends for J.C. Penney Co. “Actually, the way that fashion is going now, the big thing is for everyone to express their individuality. So I say whatever expresses your individuality, go for it.”

Last year, Manolo’s Shoe Blog (http://shoeblogs.com) offered the same advice.

“The correct rule is always appropriateness,” Manolo wrote. “It is indeed not appropriate to wear the flip flops to meet the Mr. President. However, it is most appropriate to wear the super fantastic white shoes anytime the weather it is clement.”

It is that time of the year again, time for the annual arguement about the wearing of the white shoes after the Day of Labor.

Soon, like the Punxsutawney Phil on the Day of the Groundhog, the Manolo will emerge from his lair to make is annual official pronouncement on this matter.

The White Shoes

Manolo says, the end of the summer it is fast approaching, and once again the Manolo he will be soon be required, as he always is, to opine upon the issue of the white shoes after the Day of Labor.

However, in the meantime, let the Manolo say that there is one moment when the white shoes they are always appropriate…

P.S. Ayyyyy! The YouTube it is now not working.

Happy Bloomsday!

Manolo reads,

Her shoes were the newest thing in footwear (Edy Boardman prided herself that she was very petite but she never had a foot like Gerty MacDowell, a five, and never would ash, oak or elm) with patent toecaps and just one smart buckle at her higharched instep.

Why Bloggers Blog

Manolo says the Manolo he has been mentioned in the Australian newspaper in the article entitled Why Bloggers Blog

Although not on the same level as Salam Pax, a more recent example is that of the anonymous Manolo’s Shoe Blog (http://www.shoeblogs.com), a blog about “fashion, celebrity and Manolo” and comes with the disclaimer that it is not written by revered shoe designer Manolo Blahnik.

Why does the Manolo blog? Because he wishes to share with his many internet friends his love of the shoes! It is as simple as this.

Pjotro!

Manolo says, the Manolo he has the new hero…Pjotro!

The Pop Apocalypse: Ragnarok-n-Roll!

Manolo says, ayyyyyyyy! The end times, the final battle of the gods, Ragnarok, they are upon us!

Skol has at the last caught and eaten the sun, and Jörmungandr, the Midgard serpent, has awakened from her slumber to lay waste the land and sea. Soon, Surtr and the fire giants of Muspelheim, will cross the rainbow bridge from the south to rend the very sky itself!

Well, it is either that, or the GWAR knock-off band it has won the Eurovision.

Meanwhile, the crowd has left but these two they are still going at it.

The Pop Apocalypse: Balkans Epicenter of Tragedy!

Manolo says, the disaster that is the Eurovision it continues to crush the spirits of the European peoples, none more so than the residents of the little countries that were formerly part of the Yugoslavian Federation.

How these simple peoples must suffer under the traumatic indignities of …

…leggy Bosnian squeezebox players…

…salacious Macedonian dry humping…

…Croatian gynecological exams.

This disaster it has spread the neighboring Albania, where stunned locals now stand around fondling their goat skins while youthful crooners mangle pop standards!

This it is enough to make one long for the return of the Tito.
