Manolo’s Gift Music II

Manolo says, here are four more recommendation from the music files of the Manolo, perfect for giving to those you love.

Tanto Tempo

Tanto Tempo by Babel Gilberto Manolo Likes! Click!

The Babel, she has such the lovely voice, and the rhythms they are so smooth and warm, like the pieces of polished tropical wood. It is in the humble opinion of the Manolo the perfect Bossa Nova, something that would allow you to sit back, close your eyes, and pretend that you are elsewhere.

Continental Drifter

Continental Drifter Charlie Musselwhite Manolo Likes! Click!

Every since he first heard the Stand Back, many of the years ago, the Manolo he has been the devotee of the Charlie Musselwhite, the powerful bluesman and blower of the harp from the Chicago. So, you can imagine the joy of the Manolo when he heard that the Charlie he had recorded the album with the Eliades Ochoa and his band, Cuarteto Patria. The Manolo he loves this record so much that he has had to buy the second copy, so that he is never far from it. Sabroso!

This it is just the Dwight Yoakam, the acoustic guitar, and his masterful songbook. It is really how this music it was meant to be heard. Quiet, and yet it is also intensely personal and powerful.

19 Dias Y 500 Noches

19 Dias Y 500 Noches

If you not heard the odd, harsh, gravelly, eccentrically beautiful, chain-smoker’s voice of the Joaquin Sabina, you have not heard one of the treasures of the Spanish pop music. If you have not listened to the funny, rude, ridiculous, sublime lyrics of the songs of the Jaoquin Sabina you have not encountered one of the treasures of the modern Spanish poetry.

The Medieval Shoes

Tiny Medieval Shoe of the Child
The Medieval Poulaine

The Museum of the London they have just opened the new Medieval Gallery, one which features many examples of the medieval couture and the medieval shoes.

For the example, the top pictures is is of the tiny shoe of the child, from the 14th century. And the bottom picture it is the pointy toed shoe called the “poulaine”, also from the 1300’s. (Of the course, this example, it is not as good as the one in the Manolo’s personal collection.)

Speaking of the poulaines, the Manolo he has for the while been meaning to mention this website, whose goal it is to “get as many people into the pointy shoes as possible.”

Manolo loves the crazy SCA peoples with their rattan swords and homemade poulaines!

Manolo’s Gift Music

Manolo says, the secret to giving the good music is to give something unexpected, something unusual, something astounding, but also something that you know the recepient cannot but love. Here are four albums that the Manolo believes meets these standards.

Facing Future

Facing Future by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole Manolo Adores! Click!

The late Israel Kamakawiwo’ole he had the voice of the angels, and when you hear him, with only the ukulele for the accompaniment , you will never hear the Hawai’ian music the same way. There is the sweetness and honesty to the voice that not the thousand Don Hos can replicate.

Tholonious Monk Quartet with John Coltrane at Carnegie Hall

Here is the newly discovered classic, one that the Manolo immediately added to his collection.

Ayre

Osvaldo Golijov: Ayre Manolo Likes! Click!

This it is so wonderfully exotic, and yet so familiar at the same time that the Manolo he is entranced by this work, and listens to it more frequently than is probably healthful.

The Wild Tchoupitoulas

The Wild Tchoupitoulas

This it is the real New Orleans music, the Meters and the Nevilles getting together to stomp out the most danceable music the Manolo has ever heard. In the year with the New Orleans was greviously injured, what better way is there to celebrate the beating heart that survives at the center of the great city than by dancing?

Boots for the French Winter

Manolo says, one of the Manolo’s internet friends has asked the Manolo the question.

Dear Manolo, I love your blog and I value your advice, so here is a question for you. I will be living in Strasbourg, France for the month of January. It’ll be very cold and very wet, and I’ll be doing a lot of walking on cobblestones. Can you recommend a super fantastic pair of boots for me? — Rachel

Strasbourg in the January, it is not exactly the April in Paris, however, no matter what the weather, it is always the right time to visit the France.

For the Manolo this question it is difficult because his friend failed to give the Manolo some indication of her age, or her personal style, however, keeping this in the mind, the Manolo he will recommend two pairs of the boots suitable for the cold, wet conditions of the European winter.

Action by Aquatalia Manolo Likes! Click!

This boot from the Aquatalia, it has its own rough and ready yet stylish aspect, with the heavy rubber sole and waterproofed suede, that the Manolo thinks would be appropriate for invading France in the winter. The problem with this boot, it is that it cannot be easily dressed up for the fancy dinner at the Michelin be-starred restaurant, but for the tramping about the city, into and out of the bistros, it would be perfcect.

Paul Green Nelson Manolo Likes! Click!
This slick boot with the wingtips from the Paul Green it can be worn with the dressier outfit, yet because of the no-slipping sole, it would keep the Manolo’s friend safe from the tumble on the stones of the cobble.

The Contest of the Ugly Sweater

Manolo says, Ayyyyyy! The Manolo’s internet friend the Knitilda, she is holding the contest to find the Ugliest Holiday Sweater!

This is, of the course, the topic that the Manolo has spoken of in the past.
